Bike and Walking Trails
 |
Wyndham has a fantastic network of bike and walking trails just waiting for you.
Pump up your tyres or pop on the sneakers and check out the following bike and walking
trails.
Federation Trail – Werribee to Brooklyn
The new Federation Trail opened in October 2006 and is the one of the biggest and
most important trails to be built in Melbourne’s west. The trail will eventually
link to Melbourne's CBD, the Bay Trail at Altona, Sunshine, and the Werribee Park
Tourism Precinct, namely the Werribee Open Range Zoo and Werribee Park Mansion.
Where is it?
The Federation Trail runs from Millers Road (just north of the Westgate Freeway,
Melway ref 41, B11) through to the Werribee River just south of Werribee (Melways
408 J1).

download our map of the trail. (need to get a map BV?)
How long is it?
The trail is 24 kilometres from one end to the other. It will take most riders between
1-2 hours to ride.
What is the trail like?
The trail is a high quality bitumen surface that is flat for the entire length of
the trail. The trail is completely off road and there are traffic lights at any
busy road crossings.
It is suitable for riders and walkers of all ages and experience.
What is there to see and do along the way?
The trail follows the historic Melbourne Outfall Sewer reserve that has heritage
aqueducts and impressive red brick channels which are part of Melbourne’s early
engineering heritage. The reserve is well vegetated for much of the trail and there
are a number of parks including the Skeleton Creek Reserve in Hoppers Crossing and
the Lawrie Emmins Reserve in Laverton North.
The best spots for a coffee and refreshments are a short ride up the Werribee River
trail into Watton Street which is Werribee’s retail and shopping precinct or a short
detour into Hoppers Crossing.
